It’s been six months since the release of the Nexus 6 and let’s face it, the oversized Google phone didn’t exactly set the world alight with mixed reviews and a flagship price. Historically the Nexus brand had championed top specs with a minimum price but this departure turned off many existing Nexus fans such as myself!
That said, the Nexus 6 did have a lot going for it, if you wanted the large screen and were happy to pay. It was actually one of the fastest phones of 2014 thanks to a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, which works at 2.7 GHz paired with 3gb of ram. The camera was a big leg up from the previous model too.
Are Google Developing a Nexus 5 (2015)?
Rumours circulating the web point to two possible candidates for the next Nexus manufacturer. If we are to believe what we read, they are in talks with both LG and Huawei.
LG seems the safer bet. The LG made Nexus 4 was a consumer success and very popular phone during its lifespan. If they could reproduce this with a 5″ phone then I would be queueing up to make a purchase. This track record and good reputation could be enough.
However Google always seem to enjoy mixing things up and introducing new manufacturers into the mix. So whilst Huawei don’t have an established reputation in the UK and US they are known to make great phones for the Chinese market. Could this be an opportunity to bring us something unique?
What specs might we find in the Nexus 5 (2015)?
Obviously it’s too early to tell right now but would it be too much to ask if we match the Nexus 6 capabilities? I’d rather a well priced device, it doesn’t have to have the next generation chips. That said, a decent camera would seal the deal for me.
So, perhaps the Nexus 5 (2015) will have a 5″ AMOLED display, coupled with 3 GBs of RAM and the 64-bit Snapdragon 820 CPU.
