If you’re having trouble getting the Flash based TV streaming sites running then this will be of interest.
TVCatchup have released an Android version of their popular TV streaming app for use by UK residents with a valid TV license. I’ve already had a quick play and can confirm it runs great on a Nexus 7 tablet.
Freeview Streamed to Your Nexus 7
It essentially broadcasts the UK free to air channels live to your Android device including BBC One, ITV, Channel 4, Five, 4Music, Film4, Dave, Cbeebies and a heap more.
Despite it’s name, TVCatchup no longer allows you to pause channels or view old programs. According to Wikipedia this was to conform to licensing agreements and stay legal.
Personally I’m more interested in viewing content offline as I don’t particularly want to pay for data charges whilst out and about, so definitely looking forward to the iPlayer Android update which will bring offline viewing (and hopefully Nexus 7 compatibility!).
But even so, I think this app deserves a place on my Nexus 7, I can see it being used from time to time. Very useful if forced to wait somewhere, such as the airport, where there are WiFi hotspots.
