The Nexus 9 tablet was officially launched in October 2014, it was announced alongside Android 5.0 and was the first tablet to feature the Lollipop edition of the mobile operating system.
As usual, the release of the Nexus 9 was subject to many rumours, in particular who would be making the new Google tablet. It was finally revealed to be HTC, a company not known for tablet manufacturing at the time but had been enjoying recent success in the mobile phone market. Partnering up with Google was a good opportunity to break into the tablet market.
