The BBC’s iPlayer application has proved a source of great frustration for Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablet owners. In fact iPlayer related search terms have proved to be the biggest draw to the NXTab site over the last few months.
Not only have we suffered from various compatibility issues but even when we have got it working the video quality has been poor, very disappointing when you are running on a top quality tablet like the Nexus 7 or Nexus 10.
The good news is that the BBC have just released an update which means Nexus owners sporting the very latest version of Android can once again download the iPlayer application direct from the Google Play store.
This latest Android iPlayer update promises:
- Polished application design
- Improved video performance over WiFi, with further enhancements on the way
- Now supporting Jelly Bean 4.2
- An extra channel – BBC Alba (a Gaelic station)
It’s good to see that they are starting to get their act together, but the change I really want is the ability to download programs for offline viewing (and please give us a better implementation than the iOS setup). We can only hope that the next Android update doesn’t break it again!
