Just wondering what the 4 pins are on the side of my nexus 7? Is it for some kind of Surface style keyboard attachement, if so where can I get one. I haven’t found anything that can plug into the,.
Sounds like you are referring to the infamous pogo pins
The idea is that these will allow your Nexus tablet to connect easily to a dock, the pins will just rest against the connectors in the dock and a temporary connection will form. It might be possible to connect audio devices, keyboard, charge etc.
The frsutration however is that no such dock has been released to date despite there being noises of an official one coming from ASUS. It is generally thought that a dock would be a big seller if it did come to market so I hope they sort it out.
Just for a bit of extra information. My nexus 1 came with a desk dock and a car dock. There are 3pogo contacts. 0v, 5v and dock identification. This is probably set by different voltage levels. Once the phone was docked Bluetooth would automatically activate enabling an audio link to be established (and car mode when in the car dock). The car dock has a built in speaker and amplifier. The desk dock has audio out for conection to a HiFi unit.
The nexus7 is probably similar. I have no idea what the extra contact is for.
