Hi,I recently signed up to The Times UK offer of a Nexus 7 (Wifi only) plus subscription. A friend has an iPad with The Times subscription and the latest version is automatically downloaded daily. I contacted The Times before making my order to ensure this happened with the Android version (as I often use the train in the morning and don’t want to have to get the Nexus out, open the app before I leave home – as I’d probably forget) and was told this would be the case with the Android version.I have the Nexus now, but don’t see an option on the app to do this – or to set up an account to automatically download the latest version. I’ve contacted The Times tech support but no answer as yet.Anyone else have the Times app for the Nexus 7 and done this?
Congrats on getting the Time’s deal. Looks like a bargain for Times readers.
I can understand why you would want that feature, I have it running for the Metro app and it’s nice to know the latest copy is always waiting for me (although am curious to know how to delete old copies!).
Having a quick Google I can see that the app does indeed promise auto downloads but can’t see any reference to how this is controlled.
Anyone got this working?
It is a good deal if you buy regularly. Also, I’ve had the tablet for less than a week and I already really like it.
Can I ask where you saw the auto download comment? I have seen this for the iPad, but not android – which was why I contacted The Times directly to confirm the auto download – the Sales person had to go and ask to confirm. The problem is, I don’t see a Menu option on the app, or a way of setting up a service etc.
UPDATE: Got through to Jigsaw who handle tech queries – this version of the app does not support auto download overnight.
Not exactly happy with The Times as I was told this would be the case.
Thanks for the update! That’s disappointing and I hope they sort it out for Times readers soon. Make sure you add your thoughts to the app reviews in the Play Store.
It looks like the iPad version is superior – somewhat embarrassing given that they are offering an Android price with their subscriptions. It also looks like the smartphone version beats the tablet verison.
The good news is that whilst the Apple apps have a jump start on the Android equivalents things are evening out at a reasonable pace. I guess not everyone has bought their two apps into line. It will happen.
I tried to Google again to see where I saw it said you could auto download. But actually what comes up is a reference to the Financial Times App so perhaps I misread it. Soz.
No worries – I’ll add a comment on Play. The Jigsaw guy said I wasn’t the first to report this! This is being fed back to The Times so hopefully something they will sort fairly soon. I also told him to feedback to The Times sales teams that they are giving misleading (actually incorrect) information.
