Tagged: nexus 7 price drop
I’ve seen a few people mentioning on Twitter the possibility of a price cut for the Nexus 7. The rumour suggests a drop to 99$ for the 8gb model, $150 for the 16gb and $200 for a new 32gb model.
However, this has been strongly denied by the nice folks at ASUS. You can read more here:
I think the rumours have come about as a suggested response to the Kindle Fire and the much rumoured iPad Mini (which will see Apple following the market rather than their original design ideals). A possible path for Google could be to drop the price to ensure the Nexus 7 stays an easy choice.
I guess this is a possibility, but I’d rather see Google / ASUS come up with an enhanced model. With Apple failing to do anything particularly innovative right now here’s a good opportunity for the opposition to get ahead.
I’d like to think the Nexus 7 stands up well against anything Apple can produce. iOS just doesn’t work for me.
So it makes me sad that price seems to be the only way companies can compete with them.
On the bright side, I saw in the paper this morning that 70% of smartphones sold are now Android based. Perhaps there is hope for substance over style after all…
If Google / ASUS come up with an enhanced model then I would be tempted to buy one. Then I could ‘experiment’ with rooting this one and see for myself what the benefits are.
Agreed, I like my N7 enough to want to look at buying a second or third generation model. 32gb / HDMI / SD Card / 3G / 10″ version….
