Will I need anti virus software on my nexus 7 tablet? how secure is android, i’m guessing more so than windoze, but less so than iOS.
Unfortunately Android does seem to have a growing virus problem as far as I have read. As always make sure you download from reputable sources, personally I wouldn’t install an APK file I got from the internet and would only install from the App market.
“The security firm said at the start of the year, it had found more than 5,000 malicious applications designed to target Google’s Android mobile operating system, but the figure has since risen to about 20,000 in recent months.”
They need to nip this in the bud. Could kill the whole platform
People can go a long way to securing their Android devices by sticking to official app downloads only. Some peeps can’t help themselves though, tbh if you download dodgy software you’ll get what you deserve sooner or later.
Been using AVG on my phone for a few months so I decided to go with that for my N7 too. No issues to report so far (but then again I don’t visit dodgy sites and only install from Google Play).
That’s a good point and I say that to my PC owning friends – whilst we shouldn’t be naive when it comes to malware, I do think if you stay away from dodgy sites and stick to trusted downloads you surely reduce your risk by an order of magnitude.
I never get why people download pirated software to save themselves a few quid when by definition the software has passed through the hands of some dodgy hacker. Who know what’s being side loaded when you install that kinda stuff…
AVG free from Googleplay..Would’nt be without it on any of my tech…Its a no brainer!
I use Avast but confess to not knowing if the business or not.
im new to the nexus tablet and tried to download (like 6 times) total defense antivirus software (formerly CA). i got as far as the website, signed in, started the free download, then it stopped. On left top of screen it had the 6 times i tried it (downloads) but said it couldnt open file.
first ..how do i know it took? and if it did take, where is the total defense icon?
