Hi there Nexus 7 lovers! ….and help!…..heres the plot. Im going on holiday soon and taking my N7 whilst I know there will be lots of free wi-fi hotspots in cafes and bars I want to create my own free hotspot. I downloaded Foxfi from Googleplay to my Samsung Galaxy Mini smartphone last night and followed instructions and my N7 had not probs connecting to it and it allowed me to watch an hour of BBC iplayer
The results were I ended up being charged £4.00 by Tesco for an hours use. Guess I did something wrong coz loads of people seem happy with this app. As anyone else used this app to a greater success than me and where do you think I’ve gone wrong? or Is there any other way of creating a free or cheaper wi-fi hotspot even if it means buying a micro usb/usb adapter for a dongle directly to my N7?
FoxFi looks interesting, might have to try that myself. I guess most networks write into their small print that tethering isn’t allowed (the Three all in one tariff is a notable exception).
As to other ways to make a mobile hotspot, I would suggest MiFi.
1. Get a MiFi dongly thingy, unlocked from Amazon is as good a place as any
2. Get a data plan from giffgaff
For bigger capacity data plans I think three works out better. You may or may not be able to break your current mobile phone plans T&Cs and use your SIM in one of these. I’m not sure, attempt at your own risk and appreciate your provider might charge or cut you off.
Ty for your response Neo. I have already checked out Amazon and looking at an Unlocked ZTE MF60 mifi unit which will allow me to use not only 3’s pre loaded data sims but preloaded sims of any country visited..It will cost, but will keep checking in on Foxfi and its usage with another google app called pdanet as a” no cost” option. Sadly this app lacks decent instructions…..if you or anyone else out there can get your heads around it I would love to see the posts on this thread…regards
