The NExus 7 (2013) has been announced. I don’t think there is any point in creating a 2013 forum area, please feel free to post away in this area.
Let us know if you’ve got one, getting one, or if you have any questions about one!July 26, 2013 at 8:21 am #26792
Why does a $20 price rise in the US become a £40 price rise in the UK?
I have just read that Currys will be selling the new Nexus 7 16GB and 32GB for £199 and £239 respectively from Sept 13.
The old model sold in the US for a pre-sales tax price of $199 and $249 which when converted at current exchange rates and adding 20% vat gave you the UK selling price of £159 and £199. The new model will sell in the US, pre tax at $229 and $269 which if my calculations are correct, converting and adding vat should mean a UK price of £185 and £219 max.
Who is ripping off the UK customer this time Currys or GoogleJuly 26, 2013 at 8:31 am #26795
Yes, as always we seem to pay a premium vs the US. I usually cite VAT in these discussions cos often people forget that US sales tax is usually added on at the till, and varies between states / online etc. But yep, fair play for considering that too.
Other places around the world pay even more so perhaps we should be grateful for something. I seem to remember India and Australia paid an even higher premium on the current Nexus range.
I can only hope that this is a “launch price” and as soon as Google list the “real” price up on Play everyone will drop into line. I won’t be holding my breath though.
Thing is, as an existing owner price is even more critical when it comes to an upgrade decision. I might have paid £159 to replace my 16gb Nexus 7 (2012), I won’t be spending £239 whatever the storage.
Interestingly, £239 is how much the Nexus 4 cost (which I use more than my N7 tbh).August 4, 2013 at 9:00 am #26891
Like Jez I use my Nexus 4 most of the time and its super fast. N7 has become my e-book reader as its so slow for anything else. Will I buy the new N7, I may if I give the old one away to goddaughter to play with, otherwise no way?.

Does anyone know when Argos will stock the new Nexus 7?August 30, 2013 at 11:17 am #27091
I bought one from Tesco Direct and although not expected to arrive until Monday it arrived last night so goddaughter got old one now. I have it fully running now but when switched on it was in Indonesian.

Cable a foot shorter which is a pain as need to charge elsewhere now and the on/off and volume buttons less friendly but will get used to them. Sound is much better. Display is great but as my broadband speed is very poor (Nexus 4 is 15 times faster using mobile network) need more time to see improvement in tablet.September 1, 2013 at 5:38 am #27111
I bought this case for less than a tenner including postage. I had the previous version so knew what to expect. Happy with it.September 1, 2013 at 6:53 am #27112
