So, am loving my N7 (is the right term?!) but have already hit a first big(ish) problem.
How can I set this up for shared use? How are other people managing having multiple family member accounts? I decided to register it to a new “family” google account, which seems like a good idea as there is no way I’m letting the kids read my email and get at all my passwords etc.
Looks like you can add a pin to protect purchases which is a good start.
But how can I manage things like email and FB accounts? As far as I can see we either all log in and out each time via Chrome and use the mobile versions of apps, or we all add our accounts.
I suppose in the long run, if we find the tablet to be really useful, we might end up all having one, but then we have to re-buy the apps (or do you?) for each account.
I can’t believe Android has no user concept. I see the point with mobiles, but now that its powering tablets surely they see a use case for user profiles. A family doesn’t need to buy 4 of of these things?
Still no further on this, any ideas?
FWIW it looks like multi user support could be on the way:
Managed to set up users, but can’t see how to asssign passwords to any accounts. Also, swopping between users, How?
I bought myself a Nexus 7 for Christmas, it was out of stock at the U.S. Google store but I found one at a reputable online electronics retailer.
I have a personal Gmail account and a business Gmail account, so I set up the Nexus 7 with two separate users. It’s easy to do, first set up the main user account. Then go to “Settings” and select “Users”, then you can set up separate users. I don’t know what the limit is but I read of a guy who set up 7 accounts with no problem.
Once the user is set up, you can add a user photo and passwords, each user is a completely separate entity, you even have to download separate apps and things, they’re not cross-visible to other users.
So when I first turn on my Nexus 7, I get a login screen and I selected the number pad for password. Two round photos appear at the bottom for both my users (a photo of me and a photo of my business). I press on one or the other, enter my password PIN and I’m in. It’s easy…
P.S. to switch between users, you can swipe down from the upper right, select the user it shows (if you selected a photo, it will appear here) and then you can switch users. It will bring you back to the login screen where you enter your PIN or password again for the next user.
