A work colleague ordered the Nexus 5 on release day and it turned up last Monday. He was kind enough to let me have a little go! I was mostly interested in how the Nexus 5 compares against the Nexus 4.
The first thing I did was to hold it up to my Nexus 4 to compare sizes. The N5 is lighter and thinner but not by a significant amount, the difference is very small. Interestingly, if you lie them flat on a table the N5 is higher due to the camera lens that sticks out a little.
I do think the N5 looks a little slicker in looks with its sharper lines and matt black finish.
The stand out difference seems to be the screen, Android layout differences aside, the N5 screen seemed to vibrant when placed next to the N4, the colours were so much brighter. Definitely a step forward for the brand.
The other thing I checked out on my quick hands on with the phone was the camera. This was one thing that might encourage me to splash out the cash and go for it. So I took a few photos with my phone and the N5 and compared them after. TO be honest, I couldn’t really tell the difference.
The pics were taken in our office and both showed minor blurring of a jumping colleague, otherwise the images were both good. Well, good enough.
I came away thinking that, yes, the Nexus 5 is a great phone, but the Nexus 4 holds up well against it. All things being equal, of course I’d say go for the newer model but if you get offered a cheap N4 then I think it would be a valid choice.
Just need the Android 4.4 KitKat update to arrive on my phone now!
My first impression with Nexus 5 is OK, I like it’s wireless charging
