My wife’s Nexus 7 pings when mail is received, even though the embedded email program is not loaded
Mine does not ping and only receives mail when I load the email app.
I set up both, and both are set to check every 10 mins.
Mine used to ping, but not now – I have looked in setup for both tablets and they appear to be the same
Not sure what to suggest really, when using gmail you have the option to set whether to receive notifications or not (in addition to whether you want the account to sync). It sounds like you aren’t using gmail in this case but can you configure this option? I’ve found that clearing an app’s cache can sometimes fix funnies – or can you remove and re-add the app without much fuss?
Thanks for advice Key Master – will try clearing cache. The email app I am using was preinstalled, yellow icon, labelled simply “email”. I added all my accounts easily, and for a time it did advise of incoming mail, even when asleep. But not recently. Funnily the app is neither shown in the Google Play “Installed” list, and it does not appear in Google Play Search. (so I hesitate to uninstall). I think there may be some connection with gmail (which I do not use. I feel I must have changed something, but can’t see what it was. My setup seems exactly the same as that of my wife’s Nexus 7
Perhaps it’s worth looking on Google Play for an app for your email provider (many of them have apps) and using that. I’m using the Yahoo! app and I get prompt notification of incoming mail.
Thanks guys for the advice
