I’m really keen to get into ereading and was interested in the kindle but the nexus 7 seems to the tablet to get right now? But can I use it to read kindle books, is it any good for that?
Yep – you can download the Kindle app from Google Play:
Free to download, loads of free and cheap books (I particularly like reading the biographies from independent authors which you can usually get for no more than £2).
My worry about free / cheap books is the quality. Is that a problem, I imagine you can get a good idea from the reviews?
That’s what I do, yes. I filter out by 4 stars and above then consider ones with more than a handful of reviews. I know this means some newer and less-reviewed books won’t get a chance from me, but I’ll let other people do my hard work :)
If you are new to Kindle then its worth mentioning that you can always send other documents to your Kindle account: its not just good for reading books that you buy from them. PDF’s for example; Word documents; long and detailed web pages – in short just about any type of readable document can be formatted to send to your Kindle account, turning it into a simple, highly readable, text only Kindle document. Most popular browsers have add-ons for this, and of course you are equipped with an e-mail address for your Kindle account to send it documents.
you can also side load any .mobi file into your Kindle app by placing it in the kindle folder on the device storage. Meaning you can purchase or convert (using something like Calibre) your own files from other sources and copy them to the N7.
