Anyone else getting this a lot recently when running BBC iPlayer? My downloads chug away and get to 100% but then never actually say completed. It just gets stuck there.
When I try to delete the failed download it then crashes. “bbc iplayer has stopped working”. The failed download gets stuck in the queue and other downloads then get stuck behind the one that hasn’t completed.
One solution to this seems to be to clear the app’s cache. This will get you going again but you then lose any downloads you have and any favourites etc.
Doing a bit of experimentation and it seems the same programmes seem to cause the problem each time. For example I have done a few downloads OK, then I try “Have I got News for You” and boom. Failed.
Just me or does the beeb need to poke some underpaid developers into action…
This is running on my Nexus 4 on KitKat 4.4.2
There is a bug reported here here. Lokos like it is a KitKat 4.4.3 issue. Grrrr. New I shouldn’t have rushed to update it :(
“Playback starts to degrade after about 15 minutes of continuous normal playback of a downloaded programme. This issue is specific to Android version 4.4.3”.
There isn’t much info on what is wrong or how it is going to be fixed, all they say is:
“We’re working with Google to fix these bugs.”
They do eventually get round to fixing these things although it can take a while as you probably know.
I got KitKat 4.4.4 today but the bug is still there. Mine starts to stutter after about 18 mins into a program, although sometimes it seems like it goes a bit longer but is that my imagination? It is super annoying and iPlayer programs become unwatchable.
The playback gets really choppy and the sound stutters like anything.
Sort it out BBC. (Please).
