Anyone else having this problem? Downloaded programs start to stutter about half way through and become unwatchable. They get really choppy and the sound stutters. Happens about 15-18 mins in.
Please help I use iPlayer all the time, its about the only app I really need.
Yes, this is a known issue and apparently it is being worked on. As soon as I am aware of a fix I’ll post up here.
I too am super annoyed by this. If the problem were on the iOS app Im sure it would be addressed the next day. Why does Android still get second class treatment despite being way more popular?
3 months later and the stutter bug is still present.
The iPlayer reviews are littered with 1 star reviews complaining of this problem so it is certainly not unique to us.
The BBC is a public service, and one which all viewers pay for. So if they are going down the route of mobile applications then they need to make sure it at least works and is available to the largest platform of users (which is now Android). I still can’t help thinking that if this was an iPhone bug all other development would have halted until it was resolved.
We’ve actually had a couple of iPlayer and BBC Media Player updates in recent times so it’s not like they aren’t working on it. The changelog even hints at stability and playback improvements but it looks like us Nexus owners on the latest Android version are still suffering from choppy sound and stuttering images.
The iPlayer app is by far my most used so this is very disappointing.
So finally some progress on iPlayer. I got my Lollipop download last night on the Nexus 4 and managed to watch one whole program on the way to work today with no stuttering! Have they finally solved the problem?
