I’m quite stunned by the number and variety of GPS apps. I am considering writing a review of them all for my website. Is it appropriate to publish a link to it here if/when I do it? Or is there such an article already? Some such apps are extremely sophisticated, and I am looking for one or more to use as a replacement for a 12-year-old GPS receiver. I want, as a very minimum, to be able to do everything I can at present. I realise that 12 years is quite a while in GPS technology.
Just do it. I think that such a link would be equivalent to putting a post on this site for each app and Jez is not likely to object unless you have a commercial motive. At the worst, he’d have a “friendly word”, I think, and delete the post!
As an amateur / hobby site I am more than happy to link to and promote other’s people’s posts. No skin off my nose and generally blogs that work together benefit from each other.
That said I do shy away from promoting sites that are “thin” affiliate sites, ie more ads than content. (if you haven’t registered a forum account you can login to remove ads from the forum here!).
It would make an interesting read, so far I have only really looked at Google’s navigation app and haven’t looked beyond that. Ah, actually I used to use AndNav but I wasn’t too impressed by it at the time – to be fair I had it on my own phone which generally made any app look bad due to poor performance and display!
